A ROLO Life Story
1942 – 2025
A devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend whose happiest moments were spent around the family dinner table.
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, carpenter, gardener and storyteller.
“Every life leaves a story worth remembering.”
His Story
John Whitmore was born in 1942 and grew up in a close-knit family near the coast. He was remembered as a thoughtful and dependable person who believed that kindness was shown most clearly through everyday actions.
In 1967, John married Margaret. Their marriage became the centre of a family life filled with Sunday dinners, summer holidays, birthday celebrations and countless cups of tea. John rarely sought attention, but his warmth made people feel welcome wherever he was.
He worked for many years as a carpenter and took great pride in creating things that would last. At home, there was always a small project underway: a shelf to mend, a chair to restore or a toy to make for one of the grandchildren.
John loved gardening, old music, coastal walks and telling stories that became slightly more dramatic with every retelling. His greatest happiness came from seeing his family together.
He is remembered not only through photographs and important dates, but through the traditions he created, the lessons he shared and the quiet care he showed to the people around him.
